The Urban Transformation Acceptance and appropriation Questionnaire (UTAQ) was developed by UCL to establish the socio-cultural baseline for citizens by explaining and measuring citizen support for climate-neutral urban change, preferences and attitudes towards well defined trade-offs.
It draws on structured acceptance theory particularly the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT, Venkatesh et al. 2003, 2012) and extends it beyond technology adoption to the broader domain of urban transformation.
UTAQ treats acceptance as the outcome of a structured psychological and social process. The questionnaire and analysis aims to establish links between emotional experience of current urban conditions, cognitive framing of problems, normative and evaluative judgements about proposed measures and behavioural intention. By modelling these links, CORESpaces can establish a (wider) socio-cultural baseline and measure and model acceptance. It would also allow to explain why acceptance might vary across cities and population groups, rather than simply describe that it does.
